Important Registration Details:

• First-Time Students: All new participants join us as Beginner Students.

• Registering Multiple Students? If you are registering more than one child, please complete a separate form for each student so we can prepare for them individually.

• Please Contact Us If Plans Change: We know family schedules fluctuate! If your child cannot make it after registering, please email us so we can open the spot to another student.

• Our No-Show Policy: Because seating is limited, missing two or more sessions without notifying us will unfortunately restrict your child from registering for future Girls Code Savannah sessions. We appreciate your understanding.

Girls Code Savannah works hard to create a wonderful experience for all attendees. Attendees also play a part in making the experience a success for all involved. To help achieve this, we adhere to a Code of Conduct for all camps & classes.

This Code of Conduct & Personal Property Disclaimer is intended to set clear behavioral expectations, outline personal device guidelines, and help create a safe, meaningful experience so that all participants, including attendees, staff, organizers, guests, and instructors, feel welcomed, encouraged, and respected.

Expected Behaviors

We ask all participants to help us build a positive community by:

• Showing Kindness: Treating fellow students, instructors, and volunteers with respect, empathy, and courtesy.

• Collaborating: Supporting peers, sharing ideas, and celebrating each other’s coding accomplishments.

• Engaging Fully: Staying focused on instruction, actively participating, and allowing others the space to learn.

• Respecting the Space: Treating all hardware, software tools, and classroom equipment with utmost care and respect.

Prohibited Behaviors

To maintain a safe and productive environment, the following behaviors are strictly prohibited during any Girls Code Savannah camp, class, or event:

Classroom & Technology Disruptions

• Distractions: Continual disruption of instruction or intentionally distracting other participants from coding.

• Unrelated Technology Use: Using personal electronic devices or camp technology for non-educational activities during instruction is not allowed. This explicitly includes using cell phones, checking personal social media, playing online or offline games, browsing unrelated websites, or streaming videos/music that aren't part of the lesson.

Note: If personal devices become a distraction, our staff will securely hold them for you until the end of the day.

• Unauthorized Recording: To protect the privacy and intellectual property of our instructors, guest speakers, and fellow students, audio or video recording of lectures, activities, or coding projects is prohibited unless you have explicit permission from Girls Code Savannah staff.

• Defiance & Digital Non-Compliance: Refusal to follow classroom instructions, safety protocols, or explicit digital guidelines (such as ignoring commands to close distracting applications, mute audio, or step away from unapproved software).

• Personal Property & Device Disclaimer: Students are encouraged to bring personal laptops or devices if required for class, but they do so entirely at their own risk. Girls Code Savannah, its staff, and host locations (including the Live Oak Public Library) assume no responsibility or financial liability for the loss, theft, accidental damage, or technical malfunctions of any personal property brought onto the premises.

Interpersonal Harm & Harassment

• Bullying & Harassment: We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of verbal, physical, visual, written, or digital bullying, intimidation, or unkind language. Everyone deserves to feel completely safe here.

• Cyberbullying: Kindness matters online just as much as it does in person. Online harassment, hurtful text messages, or digital exclusion targeting Girls Code Savannah students, staff, or guests is strictly prohibited—whether it happens inside the classroom or at home after hours.

• Creating & Posting Inappropriate Social Media Content: Creating, publishing, or sharing any social media post, image, or video that is derogatory, unsafe, or inappropriate while participating in or representing our program is prohibited. This also explicitly includes publishing or sharing images or media of participants, staff, or guests at any time that have been substantially altered, fabricated, or generated using AI without their consent. This policy does not restrict standard digital touch-ups or basic photo editing.

• Offensive Content & Unapproved Media Generation: Displaying, creating, or compiling inappropriate digital media, apparel, or personal items containing profanity or offensive symbols. This includes utilizing generative AI models or prompts during class to produce graphic, violent, or derogatory text, images, or code.

Property & Safety Violations

• Property & Digital Asset Protection: Stealing, damaging, or failing to responsibly care for physical property, hardware, or facilities. This explicitly extends to digital environments, prohibiting the intentional deletion, alteration, or sabotage of project source code, shared repositories, or digital workspaces belonging to the program, instructors, or peers.

• Substances: Possession, use, or being under the influence of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs.

• Weapons: Bringing dangerous materials, including firearms, explosives, or weapons of any kind, onto program or host property.

• Violence: Actual or threatened violence toward any individual or group.

Accountability & Enforcement

We take the safety of our environment seriously. If a participant violates this Code of Conduct, Girls Code Savannah staff will address the behavior promptly. Depending on the severity and frequency of the violation, consequences may include:

• Verbal Warning: A direct verbal warning and conversation with the student.

• Family Notification: Notification of a parent or guardian to resolve the issue together.

• Removal From Program: Suspension or immediate, permanent removal from the program.

Our highest goal is to protect the learning experience, emotional well-being, and physical safety of every child entrusted to us. We reserve the right to remove any participant who compromises that safe environment.

Acknowledgement

• Registration Requirement: This Code of Conduct is included in all registration forms and must be officially reviewed and agreed to by a parent or guardian.

• Review With Student: Parents or guardians are required to review these behavioral expectations thoroughly with their student before the first day of camp or class.

• Living Document: As a living document, this policy may be updated periodically to best serve our community. Updates are effective immediately upon posting.
